Portrait of Ahmed Derdouri **Specially Appointed Assistant Professor** Ahmed Derdouri is a geospatial scientist working with remote sensing, spatial analysis, and AI/deep learning. His research focuses on land-use and land-cover change, urban environments, climate adaptation, and spatially explicit modelling. ## Research interests * Remote sensing and geospatial data science * Land-use and land-cover change analysis and simulation * Urban heat, green space, and climate adaptation * Spatial statistics and interpretable machine learning * Deep learning for Earth-observation data ## Career and affiliations He joined the Land System Sustainability Lab at Tohoku University in July 2026. He was previously a Research Associate at the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) and a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Tsukuba.
