  ## Asst. Prof. Ahmed Derdouri participates in population mesh data symposium

  Asst. Prof. Ahmed Derdouri participated in the **International Symposium on Integrated Use of Projected
  Population Mesh Data in Japan**, held on **26–27 August 2026** at **FRIS, Tohoku University,
  Sendai, Japan**.

  The symposium was co-organized by **FRIS, SENTAN, and S24** and held in English, with in-person
  participation. The organizers were **Kaoru Kakinuma** (Tohoku University), **Laurence Hawker**
  (FuturePop), and **Tomohiro Tanaka** (Kyoto University).

  ## Assoc. Prof. Ronald C. Estoque participates in fourth IPCC cities report author meeting

  Assoc. Prof. Ronald C. Estoque participated in the **Fourth Lead Author Meeting** of the **IPCC Special
  Report on Climate Change and Cities**, held on **3–7 August 2026** at the **Indian Institute
  of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, India**.

  More than 100 scientists from 56 countries gathered to work on the report's final draft ahead
  of government review. The report is scheduled for consideration by the IPCC in March 2027.

  ## Asst. Prof. Ahmed Derdouri presents Japan's land-use futures at adaptation research meeting

  Asst. Prof. Ahmed Derdouri participated in **The 1st Climate Change Adaptation Research Meeting
  (第1回 気候変動適応研究発表会)** and gave an oral presentation on **4 August 2026** titled
  **"Simulating Japan's Land-Use Futures with a Scalable Agent-Based Modelling Framework"**.

  The meeting took place on **3–4 August 2026** at the **University of Tokyo's Ito International
  Research Center, Tokyo, Japan**, with online participation also available. It was organized by
  the **Center for Climate Change Adaptation, National Institute for Environmental Studies
  (NIES)**, and the **S-24 project**.

  Asst. Prof. Ahmed Derdouri joined the lab in a specially appointed role, bringing work on remote
  sensing, geospatial data science, and AI applied to land-use change and climate adaptation.

  Ms. Shihoko Nukamori joined the same day as Secretary, taking on lab administration, procurement, and
  institutional liaison.

  Advanced Environment at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Tohoku University, led by
  Assoc. Prof. Ronald C. Estoque.
